Lubambo Musonda: “it’s time for Zambia to get back on top”

Zambia midfielder and captain, Lubambo Musonda believes that the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast 2023 is the right competition for his team to return to the top.

Zambia won the 2012 edition in Gabon, but they have struggled attaining the same success in the competition ever since.

“It’s time to get back on top. Surely it will not be easy. But I am glad that we have a team that wants to fight, that wants to win. We're not going to say that we're perfect, but we're fighting on the pitch. We are here to fight until the end and achieve victories,” said the midfielder.

The Chipolopolo are drawn in a difficult Group F consisting of Morocco, DR Congo and Tanzania.

“Everything is fine. We are happy to be here and can't wait to start the matches,” adds Musonda, who does not forget to praise his coach Avram Grant:

“The coach is a father to all of us. He encourages us to give our best in every match and even in training. He talks a lot with each of us and he helps us a lot.”

The 2012 African champions begin their competition on 17 January against DR Congo, before playing Tanzania and finishing against Morocco.

“Our ambition has always been to win all our matches. We showed it in qualifying that we want to play and win the matches. All the guys are motivated to play for the country and do great things,” concluded Musonda.
