This is the first clash between AS Mande and Ampem Darkoa.

This is AS Mande’s second clash against Ghanian opponents at the finals, in 2021 they faced off against Hasacaas ladies in their second group game and ended up losing the game 3-0.

AS Mande’s defeat to Hasaacas Ladies in 2021 is the only time that two teams from the WAFU region have faced off with each other at the finals.

This game will be the second time teams from West Africa will face off at the finals both have now involved AS Mande.

 

AS Mande

Began with a 1-1 draw against Huracanes of Equatorial Guinea.

The game against Hurucanes was the second time that AS Mande had managed to come from a losing position at the finals to gain a point, the other occasion was in their 2-2 draw against Wadi Degla in their final group game in 2021. They twice came from behind in that game against the 2021 hosts.

AS Mande are now undefeated in their last two games at the finals both have ended in draws, their final game in 2021 against Wadi Degla and their opening game against Hurucanes.

AS Mande are looking for their first win at the finals, they have played four games across two competitions and have lost two games and drawn two.

AS Mande are the first team to go four group games at the finals without a win, all three previous teams Mamelodi Sundowns, AS FAR and Wadi Degla who have competed in more than one edition managed to win one game in their first four matches at the finals.

Should they fail to win AS Mande will become the second team to go through five successive games at the finals without a win, after Wadi Degla who starting  with a loss in their second group game in 2021 and all three of their group matches in 2022 without a win went five games winless (D1 L4).

AS Mande had a player sent off at the finals for the first time when goalkeeper Fatoumata Karentao was red carded in their draw against Hurucanes.

AS Mande had 93 passes into the final third in their 1-1 draw with Hurucanes.

AS Mande struggled to win Aerial Duels during their 1-1 draw against Hurucanes they were involved in 13 Aerial Duels and managed to win only 38.5%.

AS Mande’s Fatoumata Diarra scored in their 1-1 draw against Hurucanes with her only shot on target in the game. She had 64 touches and made 39 passes.

Three players who started the 1-1 draw against Hurucanes for AS Mande Fatoumata Diarra, Aissata Keita, Oumou Traore and substitutes Sadio Sow and Korotoumou Keita all  have now featured in two CAFWCL Finals for AS Mande.  

Captain Fatoumata Diarra and Oumou Traore have started and finished all four of AS Mande’s games at the finals across two editions of the tournament in 2021 and 2023.

 

Ampem Darkoa 

Began with a 2-1 come from behind win over defending champions AS FAR in their opening game.

In Ampem’s opening game against AS FAR there were 13 Ghanaian players in the combined starting XI of the two teams, as AS FAR had Shine Agbomazi and Mafia Nyame in their starting line-up, with all eleven Ampem starters hailing from Ghana.  

Ampem Darkoa are the first team at the finals from the WAFU region to come from a goal down to win a game.

Ampem Darkoa goalkeeper Aishetu Fatao made five saves in the win over AS FAR facing six shots, the second most saves by a goalkeeper in a single game at the current edition of the CAFWCL thus far. The most saves in a single game thus far were made by SC Casablanca goalkeeper Iman Abdelahad who faced 8 shots and made 7 saves in their draw against Athletico Abidjan.

Comfort Yeboah scored with her only shot on target in the game against AS FAR.

No Ghanaian club has lost a group stage game at the finals as yet in 2021 Hasaacas Ladies won two games and drew one, while Ampem Darkoa have already won at the current finals.

Ghanaian clubs record in group stage games at the finals reads P4 W3 D1 L0.

Overall Ghanaian clubs have played in 6 games at the finals and have lost just one game, which was the 2021 final when Hasacaas Ladies lost to Sundowns. They have won four games and drawn one.

None of the six games involving Ghanaian clubs at the finals have ended in a 0-0 stalemate all have produced goals.

In their win over AS FAR, Ampem only managed 206 passes while their opponents were able to string together 456.

Comfort Yeboah was Ampem’s most influential player in the win over AS FAR she was able to score with her only shot on target, as well as create two chances and she attempted five crosses. She also had 51 touches of the ball the most of any of her teammates.
